6 Items You Didn’t Know Were Machine Washable

When it comes to keeping your home clean, we are constantly searching for the fastest, most efficient ways to do so. Luckily for our laundry, the washing machine reduces the amount of time and energy that it takes to clean your clothes by an incredible amount. You may not know this, but there are also a bunch of other household items that can be washed in this more effective manner. Here are some items you didn’t know are machine washable:

1. Backpack

As we all know, kids are the messiest little individuals, and their backpacks aren’t safe from this either. Whether they accidentally spill their lunch inside the backpack, or the ink from a pen leaked everywhere, you can use the washing machine for a solid cleaning.

2. Car Mats

It’s pretty amazing how new your car will look on the inside after a little cleaning. Once you finish vacuuming the crumbs and dirt out, you may notice that the floor mats are still stained and dirty. These can also be thrown in the washing machine for an extra round of cleaning!

3. Stuffed Animals

The more love that a child gives to their favorite stuffed animal, the dirtier it will become. Boogers, mucus, saliva, food, and many other nasty substances will inevitably find their way to the fur of these lovable toys. Throw them in the next load of laundry and they’ll be good as new to be loved some more.

4. Running Shoes

It can be easy to figure out how quickly running shoes become stinky and dirty. While it may be a little noisy, you can certainly get those shoes clean with the washing machine. Throw in a couple dirty towels to cut down on the loudness of the shoes rolling around. Or treat them to our #ActiveWearChallenge!

5. Curtains

While it may not be evident or even visible, the fabric curtains and shades in your house collect dust and debris very easily and quickly. As long as they fit in your washer, it’s a perfect candidate to be washed with the laundry. With spring cleaning in full swing as well, why not give your curtains a fresh look for the house.

6. Yoga Mat

Yoga mats are the victims of tons of sweat (and maybe even tears on those difficult days). There were probably many classes where you didn’t have time to spray your mat down and wipe it, but even doing this isn’t fully cleaning your mat. Throw it in the wash with cold or warm water and give it a thorough cleaning.
