How to Wash Pillows
Many people don’t wash pillows as much as they should because they don’t know how to wash pillows. Most pillows are machine washable, and if you wash them correctly, you can clean them thoroughly without destroying them. So if you have been avoiding washing your pillows because you didn’t know how to wash them, follow these tips and you can wash your pillows immediately.
Pillows, like other bedding, are at risk from bedbugs. They also can have dust mites and other pests. Anything that you are sleeping on should be washed no less than once a month to make sure that the bedding you are sleeping on won’t make you sick. You should also use a natural detergent, like Rockin' Green natural detergent, to wash your bedding and towels. Anything that you are going to be sleeping on or have to next to your skin and face should be washed in a natural, chemical and sulfate-free detergent to prevent allergic reactions or other problems. Here are some other tips that will help you clean your pillows without destroying them:
Always use hot water: Hot water is the best way to kill bacteria, dust mites, and other unpleasant things that can be lurking in your bedding. Make sure that you wash your pillows, bedding, and towels on the hot cycle. Dry them on the high heat cycle as well. If you want to hand wash your pillows, soak them in a natural detergent and hot water, then place them outside in bright sunlight to dry. Also make sure that you take your pillows out of pillow protectors so that the entire pillow gets washed. Run pillows through the rinse cycle several times to make sure that all the soap is rinsed out.
Put a tennis ball in the dryer with your pillows: If you just need a quick fluff on your pillows you can also put them in the dryer with a tennis ball to make them nice and fluffy. It might make a lot of noise but the tennis ball bouncing off the pillow will beat the stuffing in the pillow back into place and fluff the pillows. Add a dryer ball with a few drops of essential oil on it to make your pillows smell good and to protect your pillow from germs. Lavender essential oil is a great oil to use because it has anti-bacterial properties and it will help you relax and sleep better at night.
