5 Tips for Creative Summer Play

Posted by Guest Blogger on

fun summer activities for kidsFinally it’s nice enough to take the kids outside! It can be hard to choose which fun activities to do during the summer because there are so many to choose from. You want to keep your kids busy so they stay active and don’t sit around bored. Get them outside with some of these fun, outdoor, summertime activities.

1. Frisbee tic-tac-toe

Get creative and play Frisbee tic-tac-toe. This is a fun, unique game to play with the kids. On your driveway, draw a tic-tac-toe board with chalk. Then have each child stand about 5-10 feet away from each side of the square.  Let them take turns gently throwing the Frisbee onto a different square. When they land in a square they can go mark that spot with and X or an O. The first one to get it in a row wins!

2. Water balloons

Play with water balloons! This activity can get a little messy, so it’s best that your kids are wearing bathing suits when participating. Fill up a bucket of water balloons for your kids, and let them run around the yard splashing each other with them. Make sure that you tell them they cannot hit each other in the face with the balloons.

3. Nature scavenger hunt

If your kids are big fans of nature, then make up a nature scavenger hunt for them! Create a list of things you know can be found in your front and back yard and let them go find these things. Once they find something they can check it off their list!

4. Go biking

One of the best outdoor activities for a family is bike riding. It’s something that everyone can do and everyone enjoys! Although you can bike ride any time of the day, we think the best times are in the morning or after dinner- so the working parent(s) can enjoy too. Also, the sun isn’t so intense at these times. Bike riding is an outdoor activity that allows you to explore your neighborhood and bond with the kids while getting exercise!

5. Chalk the driveway

Winter time makes for antsy children. Summer time makes for happy, creative kids! Take your kids outside and let them go crazy with sidewalk chalk. Have contests seeing who can draw the funniest monster, best house or craziest hair-do. Your kids will have so much fun and will love being able to see their drawings on the driveway until the next rainstorm.
