3 Super Green Smoothies You’ll Love

Posted by Bill DAlessandro on

We all need the many benefits of kale, spinach and other dark green leaf veggies but sometimes the potency of a leafy green is hard to mask. Our parents have been sneaking leafy greens into our meals since we were children. For some of us however, we still loathe bitter taste of these veggies, and want ways to mask it even in adulthood. Tasty green smoothies are a great way to do this. Store brought green smoothies are available, but they give you less control over the ingredients. Here are 3 quick green smoothie recipes to start your day with that will allow you to enjoy the green and control the lean.

1. Vegan Mango-Coconut Green Smoothie

This smoothie made with light coconut milk makes you feel like you’re vacationing in Cabo. It only takes 5 minutes to put this tropical treat together. For one large smoothie you’ll need these ingredients:

  • 1 cup of packaged fresh baby spinach leaves
  • 1 cup of fresh of sliced frozen mango
  • 1/2 banana
  • 3/4 cup of light coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup of orange juice
  • 1/2 cup of ice cubes
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds for additional fiber, protein and omega-3 fatty acids (optional)

Directions: Add all the ingredients into your blender and puree to your desired smoothie consistency. Pour it up and enjoy!

2. Snickerdoodle Green Smoothie

I’m sure you remember the snickerdoodle cookie. Well, that fun and festive cookie flavor can be emulated in a healthy way all year round with this easy recipe. It uses just 6 ingredients and a blender. To make one serving of this one, you’ll need

  • 1 handful of fresh spinach
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 small avocado
  • 1/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Directions: Combine, blend it up and serve! It’s that simple.

3. Tropical Green Smoothie

If you’re looking for a traditional smoothie that makes you feel like you’re enjoying a relaxing day at the beach, you’ve found it. This one leaves you with tons of energy. We love how forgiving this recipe is. You have the freedom to switch up the flavor by using your favorite fruits and any milk of your choice. By following this recipe, you’ll end up with something that is beautifully reminiscent of a Pina colada rather than green leaves.  Here’s a general blueprint for making this tropical drink.

  • 1 ½  cups frozen spinach
  • 1 cup of  frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 cup of frozen mango chunks
  • 1 ripe banana in frozen chunks
  • 1 cup of  your favorite berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1 cup of milk (any milk of your choice will work)
  • 1 teaspoon+ vanilla extract sweetener, to taste (Averie recommends: sugar, agave, stevia, honey, maple syrup, Medjool dates)

Directions: Blend and serve!
